Bo – Torah In Haiku

Tefflin

A SIGN ON YOUR HAND …
A SYMBOL BETWEEN YOUR EYES …
TEFILLIN MITZVAH —

As this week’s portion ends, we find two similar passages:

Exodus 13:9
And this shall serve you as a sign on your hand and as a reminder on your forehead —in order that the Teaching of God may be in your mouth—that with a mighty hand Adonai freed you from Egypt.

Exodus 13:16
And so it shall be as a sign upon your hand and as a symbol on your forehead that with a mighty hand Adonai freed us from Egypt.

These words are familiar to us from Torah verses that are included in the V’ehavta prayer (Deuteronomy 6:8) and is considered a source for the commandment to lay tefillin.

Here’s this week’s haiku in Hebrew, with transliteration.
